Food Donations for W.H.E.A.T.

REMINDER: We will be collecting items for W.H.E.A.T. at our December 8 meeting. Western Hanover Emergency Action Team helps our neighbors. Here is an updated list of what is needed. 

The WHEAT Pantry needs the following foods on a regular basis

 

Boxes of breakfast cereal

Boxes of instant oatmeal

Oatmeal

Pancake mix with syrup, some low sugar or sugar free

Boxes of Mac ‘n cheese

Any size and type of tomato products

One pound boxes of spaghetti noodles

Containers of Spaghetti sauce to feed 4-6

Ramen noodles

16-ounce jars of peanut butter and/or jelly

6-ounce cans of tuna

Cans of chicken

Other cans of meat

16-ounce cans of any vegetables

Cans of dried beans, pork and beans, black and pinto beans

Pound bags of white or brown rice

Cans of fruit, some low sugar or sugar free

Any size or kind of soup

Any type of one-dish meals, Brunswick stew, chicken and dumplings, beef stew

Quart envelopes of dried milk

Envelopes of dried potatoes

Dressing Mix

Meal starters like hamburger helper

 

Paper grocery bags

Hygiene kits in a zip bag containing soap, shampoo, hand towel, wash cloth, comb or brush, small hand sanitizer, tooth brush, tooth paste, razor, 5 band-aids, deodorant

What is Giving Tuesday?

Tuesday meeting notes

The meeting Tuesday evening is 7:00 in the center room of the Montpelier Center. The room is big so there's plenty of space to spread out. 

We discussed the meeting Friday and decided that it probably wasn't a good idea to have the Trash to Treasure sale. 

Instead we will be discussing 2021 plans for veterans quilts, future programs and the December meeting. 

Vicki and Marcy have lots of veterans quilts to return for binding!

Group veteran's quilt

Gwendolyn has designed an easy veteran's quilt for us to do together.  Blocks will be collected at the November and December meetings.  Here are her instructions:

Let’s put together a group veteran’s quilt in the classic colors of red, white and blue. We’ll be using a pattern featuring pairs of half-square triangles in either red and white OR blue and white.

Cut two, 6-inch squares, one white, the other red or blue.

Draw a diagonal line on the back of the white square.

Stitch a quarter inch on either side of the diagonal line.

That’s it! Please do NOT cut the block apart. The blocks will be used in matched pairs and it will be easier to keep the patterns united if they remain uncut.

Gwendolyn also says that at the last outdoor meeting, she left a large, green, flannel sheet.  It was being used under the orphan blocks.  If someone still has it, could you please email Gwendolyn Waranis so she can arrange to pick it up at the next meeting or sewing days? She won't be attending in person, but can stop by. Thanks!

November meeting on the 17th - that's the THIRD Tuesday

 We are ON for meeting November 17 at the Montpelier Center. Hurrah! we will meet at our usual time: 7-9 pm.

Does anyone remember if we have a program planned? Or do you want to try again for our Trash to Treasure sale?

ALSO: we will be having Sewing Days at our usual location on November 13 and 14. If you plan to attend, you need to register through Hanover County; Register online now at Sewing Days.

Great news about our November meeting

 

Great news!!!! The Montpelier Center will allow us to meet in their ballroom for the very reasonable price of $10! We will need to set up our own chairs and clean up after ourselves. 

 

For those of you who aren't familiar with the Montpelier Center, it is the large building right next to the Hanover Parks and Rec building where we usually meet. The ballroom is a very large, open room with a high ceiling. There is plenty of room for social distancing. :-)

 

For November, the room is already booked to another group for the 10th. BUT, it is available for our use on the third Tuesday, November 17th, instead; please let me know right away if that date works for you.

 

We have the same room reserved for our December and January meetings, on our normal second Tuesday.

I'm so sorry we weren't able to meet in October. I miss seeing all of you - and your lovely work!

Hanover County still has the same policies in place about meeting in our usual spot. There isn't likely to be a change before the end of the year. So, we have some options for November 10th. In no particular order:

 

Meet in Debbie Quitiquit's barn in Rockville, at our usual time

Meet in our usual spot at the usual time, but limited to 12 participants

Cancel the meeting

Meet at another time or place (TBD)

 

I need to know what people want to do. Please email me with your preferred option. If you want, you can rank these choices, and, for the meeting options, tell me if you definitely would attend, probably would attend, or definitely wouldn't attend.

 

I'd like to get everyone's responses by Friday, October 30, so there is time to plan. And if you have other ideas, let me know!

 

Finally, since we won't be able to have a regular December meeting with our potluck, do you have other ideas? Would someone like to host the meeting? Do you want to do a drive-through food collection for WHEAT?
