So, this just happened! Veterans quilt news

First, I want to let you know that these 2 quilts are ready for pick up at Vicki's house or at the next meeting or sewing days.

...and the display at the Montpelier Center has been changed

This quilt was made by Margaret Griffiths

This quilt was made by Gwendolyn Waranis

Now for a story and the big news.

I (Vicki) make sample quilts for Paula Nadelstern's line of symmetry fabrics for Benartex. Each year when we send in the new quilts they send back the quilts from the previous year. Sadly, one of the 2019 quilts that I made has disappeared. It was cat themed so I think we can guess what happened. Benartex offered to compensate me in some way and I suggested some patriotic fabric for our veterans quilt project. Today I received 13 BOLTS (130 YARDS) of fabric!

The fabric is from a line called Red White and True and they sent a 10 yard bolt of each of the 13 fabrics in the collection. This image only shows 9. There are 4 more. The fabrics are all busy prints so they will probably benefit from some solids (white, black, red, blues) mixed in.

I have these and are ready to cut fabric for anyone who wants some. You can email or call me and let me know how much you want. I'll also bring some to sewing days and the next meeting.

My estimate says that we can get about 30 quilts from this donated fabric!  What a treat to get donated fabric that isn't 20 years old.

June sewing days

Sewing Days for June are the 11th and 12th, and registration is now available on the Hanover County Parks and Recreation site.  If you plan to attend, you need to register!

Register online at Sewing Days. Given the limited numbers (currently 10) and the size of our group, if you want to come both days I suggest you start by signing up for one day, then if there is still space when it gets closer, you can sign up for the second day. Let's give as many people as possible the opportunity to attend.

There is still room for May if you want to join us on the 7th or 8th.

Block 4 Hands all Around

Here's the link to Barbara Brackman's Hands All Around, BOM for April. These basic star patterns are fun and so many ways to make them look, depending on color and fabric placement. Nancy and I are making veterans quilts with 12" blocks.

April Meeting at the Montpelier Center, plus Sewing Days

Our next meeting will be held in the ballroom of the Montpelier Center for Arts and Education, on April 13th at 7:00 pm.  As always, we plan to space out our chairs and wear face coverings.  Does anyone know if we have a program for this month?

While Hanover County is gradually increasing the number of attendees allowed in their facilities, there still isn’t capacity for our entire group to meet in the Parks and Recreation building.  Hopefully by May we will be allowed more people, or we will be able to meet outside in the picnic shelter.

Please note that our April sewing days are this week – April 9th and 10th.  Last I heard there were still a few spots available, so please register with the county if you want to attend.  Registration for May is also available.
