Programs update

Note: our 4th Tuesday sewing day for January is next week 1/23. Anyone interested please make public, so that others interested know and perhaps join in! Also, Friday/Saturday (2/9 & 2/10) sewing  days will occur before our next meeting!

Hopefully, everyone was able to make some quilts with the scraps of time that the weather dealt us in January. Luckily for us, Debbie Q. has agreed to present her program on folding log cabins as the February 13th program. Thanks, Debbie! Reminder: this program will have active involvement; bring scissors and a thimble. Also, please bring your postcard to share with everyone. And, if you plan to join us in our “Embellish the cloth” challenge, you will have February and March to work on that!

We also have an additional opportunity on February 20th to hear from a designer from Henry Glass! Please try to clear your calendar to come hear her and see some of the 40 fabric lines that she works with. I will post further details in a separate post, but as of now she will speak to us at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, February 20th. She has requested that we bring show and tell, so let’s share with her, too!

In March, we will play Quilt Bingo, for which a new veterans quilt block will be the required entrance fee. I will have printed instructions at the February meetings. Or, take a look at the Nov. 2016 BOM, square wthin a square. Instead of 9” we are asking for 10” blocks.

In April, we are looking to try for a 3-skill enhancement evening. Becky B will show her appliqué technique. We are looking for a speaker on developing unique patterns, and we are pursuing paper piecing and/or English Paper Piecing (EPP). Each 15-minute presenter will allow us to move throughout the room to learn their individual details.

In June, Diane is going to show us how she works with her wool quilt making, another active involvement meeting - start putting together your lovely wool bits for this one.

Lots of good programs coming our way, for which I am very grateful to many of you. Look forward to seeing y’all soon! If you have ideas for other programs, please give me a quick call or email to discuss.
Regards,
Marcy

CHALLENGE UPDATE

When my (Becky's) sister-in-law, Heidi, came to visit this summer, she joined our alphabet challenge and drew the letter "O" - she went home to Connecticut and was inspired to design an owl. In August she attended a Mancuso Quilt Show in New Hampshire and took a class to dye her background fabric. She created the owl, fox, chipmunks, etc and sewed them all in place while she and her husband were visiting us for the holidays. Now she's added borders and is finishing it up. I thought you'd like to see what she was inspired to create, because of Marcy's Alphabet Challenge.

Heidi is a recently retired middle school art teacher and
I think she's on her way to designing many more quilts.

After the borders are on I'll get her to send a picture so we can see it finished.

So proud of how she jumped in and joined our challenge.

Nicely done, Heidi!
