Sewing Together

Since our March meeting was canceled due to weather, I'm feeling a need to get together for an extra sewing day. Who wants to sew next Tuesday, March 28. 9 a.m. - 3ish?

A note from Ellen Kuzenchak:

The Stitchers have three 10 foot long hand quilting frames to give to anyone who wants them.  Please call Ellen for more information.  Her number is on the membership list. They need to be picked up on Thursday, March 16.  Call to make sure someone will be here (Stitchers are not meeting that day).

March 14 Meeting

Program: Back by popular demand, Estelle & Vicki will be doing a program on how to make fabric postcards. They did this about 7 or 8 years ago (time flies) and it was a huge hit - you don't want to miss it!

Reminders:
1. $15 membership dues for 2017
2. Fill out Hanover County form if you haven't already done this
3. Return your house blocks
4. See previous post about joining quilt challenge
5. Bring lots of show & tell
6. Snow in the forecast. CSQ policy is: Hanover County Schools closed, our meeting is canceled. Let's hope that doesn't happen!

Spring one day - Winter the next

Challenge Group Report

For those who may be interested in joining a challenge group, a few of us have had one meeting and have come up with our first ideas:

1. Anyone is free to join in at any time, and ideas for future challenges will be welcome.
2. Our first challenge runs till the May meeting of quilt club, at which time we hope all who participated will show and tell about their pieces and the processes they used. (It's not too late to join in the fun!)
3. The first challenge parameters are:
Make a pieced background (using whatever piecing method you like), and place a pictorial image on the background (nothing abstract). Size minimum: 8" x 8"; maximum size is "wall hanging" 24" x 36".
4. To give you an idea of where this adventure might head, future challenge ideas might include:
A.Cutting up a "treasured piece" you've never used
     B. Creating texture
     C. Doing a "slice" quilt
     D. Theme a quilt based on a randomly assigned letter of the alphabet (example: "V" could be velvet fabric or a word that starts with v like vacation or victory or valor)
     E. An architectural theme
     F. A favorite vacation spot
    G. Something whimsical or comical
    H. Create your own fabric (using any technique you want to)

If this sounds fun for you, please let Marcy George know. You can talk to her at the meeting or contact her using the membership list that Pokey Childress sent out last week.

Need 3 blocks

Remember this block?

It was our October B.O.M. and we are 3 blocks short of making a veteran's quilt. If you have a block please get it to me, (Becky) as I want to sew this top together at
March Friday & Saturday Sewing, March 10  & 11.

If you would like to make a block, here is the link. Please leave a comment if you can make a block - we only need 3 more.

Thank you!
