July Meeting Notes

Friday and Saturday Sewing days are early this month! Join us July 7 and 8 in our usual place. At our last meeting we had representatives from the VA hospital and they gave us a bag of snacks. We will have those at Sewing and any leftovers will be at the regular meeting.

Free quilting frame available

I was recently contacted by a woman from Louisa who has a full-size quilting frame, with extensions, that she wants to give away.  She thinks it is probably maple.  It sounds like it has never been used.  If you are interested in it, please contact me and I will give you her name and contact information.

Sadly, we have lost 2 members from Country School Quilters.

Linda M., a long time member of Country School Quilters, passed this morning, after a long illness. She will always be remembered with fondness for her kindness and the beautiful quilts she made.

Michal R. also a member of Country School Quilters passed on June 4. Please keep them and their families in our prayers.

More veterans quilts delivered!

Actually, this batch of quilts were picked up. Last night, we had the pleasure of hosting our liaison at the VA Hospital along with two of her coworkers.

John Scheid, Jennifer Farrell and Kathleen Bunch came to share with us how important and special our quilts are to their patients in the Interventional Radiology (IR) Department. we learned what they do in their department and how they identify the veterans that need our quilts the most. They truly care about the quilts and much as we do.

We had 37 quilts ready for them to take! That brings our 2023 total to 66. Great work everyone! I think we were all inspired to go home and start making more quilts for "our veterans".

Also, don't forget to send in your quilt exhibit entries by Friday. You can get the information here.

The July meeting will be our annual summer potluck and food drive for WHEAT. We'll post next month a list of things they need.

Getting Ready for the Quilt Exhibit!

We are very excited about our upcoming quilt exhibit at The Montpelier Center. We are fortunate to have a venue in our community where we can share our love for quilts and quilting. We have attracted many new members from previous shows along with a lot of appreciation from the community. The more members who participate the more diverse and interesting our exhibit will be. Our exhibit will be September 9 - October 9. Quilts will be hung September 8 and taken down October 10.

When we sent the original survey you offered between 31-45 quilts and several of you said you could contribute more if needed. Even if you didn't respond to the initial survey, we do want your quilts!  But now it's time to finally commit. Please enter any and all quits that you want. We may not be able to take every quilt but we would rather have too many than too few.

You may offer your quilt for sale. The Montpelier Center takes a 30% commission on for sale items, in the same way any other professional venue would.

Quilts are limited to 76" in length.

Please copy and paste the following "form" and fill it out for each quilt you are entering. Email the form answers, along with a photo of your quilt to karenannehayes52@gmail.com by June 15.
