Time to send in your dues, plus sewing days reminder

I was so sad to miss seeing all of you for our regular monthly meeting.  Hopefully we will be able to have larger gatherings soon.

In a normal year we would start collecting dues in January.  Since we didn't meet in person this month, we will be collecting dues by mail.  Here is the form, which I hope you can copy and print:

Sewing Days 

Registration is open for our Sewing Days for February and March. Please remember that Hanover County has changed their restrictions and we are now limited to 9 for each day. If you plan to attend, you need to register through Hanover County; Register online at Sewing Days. Given the limited numbers and the size of our group, if you want to come both days I suggest you start by signing up for one day, then if there is still space when it gets closer, you can sign up for the second day. Let's give as many people as possible the opportunity to attend.  February dates are the 12th and 13th; March dates are also the 12th and 13th.

 

Imagination 1 x 4 Virtual Exhibit

 Three of our members are included in a new exhibit at Blackrock Center for the Arts. Marcy George, Estelle Porter and Margaret Griffiths are included in this wonderful exhibit of art quilts.

Our meeting for tomorrow, January 12, is cancelled.

Unfortunately the governor has not issued a change to his previous order, so gatherings are still limited to 10 or fewer people. That means we can't reasonably have a meeting. :-( Hopefully things will improve by the time of our February meeting.

Block Helper information for the January Meeting

 For our January meeting Marcy and Margaret are presenting a program on creating a block helper to use to keep your blocks in order between cutting and sewing. They created a handout for you to print or reference online. They will not have paper handouts at the meeting. You can access the handout here:

Our February program will be from Denise Zapf on creating a Faux Flanged Binding.

We need programs for the rest of the year. Please consider adopting a month to present a program. It could be a trunk show, a technique, charity quilt ideas, uses for fabric or batting scraps.....anything. Every member has something that we would all like to learn! You can sign up here:

Programs

First let's discuss programs for the future. I know this hasn't actually been much of an issue in 2020 but hopefully we will all be meeting together again soon. In that hope I've set up a spreadsheet that anyone can edit and sign up for a program month. You can access it here:

Please consider signing up to be responsible for a program one month. If we all sign up for one month we will be covered for over 2 years. A program doesn't have to be complex or long. You could share a new technique that you've learned, lead a sharing discussion or invite a friend to do a program. 

Veterans Quilts

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas or whatever holiday you like to celebrate. I was thrilled to be able to deliver another batch of quilts to our VA hospital contact in December. It brought our total for the year to 108. In previous years we averaged 60ish quilts to 2020 was a record breaking year for us! It motivated me to get right back to quilting and there's plenty to quilt! You all gifted me with over 12 quilt tops at the last meeting. Here are the first two that I've quilted and I have 2 more on the frame right now. I've got an order of batting on the way and other quilters ready to help quilting. I'll be at sewing days this weekend if you want to drop off tops and you are always welcome to drop them at my house. Just email me (vickisews @ gmail dot com) to arrange a time. These 2 are ready for pickup.
