Change for June meeting – sorry for the late notice.

Last week I was given the wrong information – it turns out that both our building and the Montpelier Center are used for polling, so we will not be able to meet tomorrow (Tuesday, June 8). 

We have rescheduled our meeting for Tuesday, June 15, at the usual time.  We will be in the Parks and Recreation building.  Becky Brown will be presenting a program on Star Quilts.  Thank you, Becky!

If you previously registered for the meeting, your registration has been transferred and you don’t need to do anything further.  Yay!  If you plan to attend but haven’t yet registered, please do so on the county site.  Thanks.

June meeting and future programs

Our meeting is next week! We will be back in the Parks and Rec building. Hanover County asks that we all register prior to the meeting (link in my May 21 post); a county employee will be at the meeting to check everyone in and take temperatures.

Masks are not required, but Hanover County recommends that we all follow CDC guidelines.

Right now we do not have a program planned. If anyone has something they would like to share as a program, please either email me or sign up on the program schedule here on our blog. Everyone is encouraged to bring show and tell.

We do have a program scheduled for July; the rest of the year is open so please sign up to share your expertise or enthusiasms with the rest of the group!

Upcoming meetings and sewing days

Good news! For our June meeting we can go back to gathering in our usual space. You will need to register on the county website. The county sent out an email; in case you are not on their distribution list, here's the information:

Make plans to join the Country School Quilters for meeting days and sewing days at the Montpelier Park Community Center! Meetings will be held from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Sewing Days will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month and the Friday proceeding the second Saturday.

Veteran Quilt

CSQ have given so many quilts over the past years - more than we have kept count of.  We make and give them from our heart in gratitude and love for our veterans.

May Meeting at the Montpelier Center

Our next meeting will be held in the ballroom of the Montpelier Center for Arts and Education, on May 11th (that's tomorrow!) at 7:00 pm. As always, we plan to space out our chairs and wear face coverings.

 

Denise Zapf will be presenting a program on faux flanged binding.

Veterans quilts ready for binding

These are some of the veterans quilts that will be ready for pickup Tuesday night. There are more than these! If you can't make it to the meeting you can pick up at Vicki's house. She can easily arrange contactless pick up if you prefer.

First, I want to let you know that these 2 quilts are ready for pick up at Vicki's house or at the next meeting or sewing days.

Now for a story and the big news.

I (Vicki) make sample quilts for Paula Nadelstern's line of symmetry fabrics for Benartex. Each year when we send in the new quilts they send back the quilts from the previous year. Sadly, one of the 2019 quilts that I made has disappeared. It was cat themed so I think we can guess what happened. Benartex offered to compensate me in some way and I suggested some patriotic fabric for our veterans quilt project. Today I received 13 BOLTS (130 YARDS) of fabric! 

The fabric is from a line called Red White and True and they sent a 10 yard bolt of each of the 13 fabrics in the collection. This image only shows 9. There are 4 more. The fabrics are all busy prints so they will probably benefit from some solids (white, black, red, blues) mixed in. 

I have these and are ready to cut fabric for anyone who wants some. You can email or call me and let me know how much you want. I'll also bring some to sewing days and the next meeting. 

My estimate says that we can get about 30 quilts from this donated fabric!  What a treat to get donated fabric that isn't 20 years old.
